Wood slats behave oppositely of passive absorbers which makes them ideal tools to balance reverb times. Absorbers are most effective at low volume and become less effective as the sound pressure increases. Wood slats are neutral at low levels and become more effective as the sound pressure increases. Often referred to as the “snake oil” of acoustic treatments, wood slats have absorptive, reflective, and diffusive characteristics.
